Houston Sleep Dentist

Both Dr. Frazar and Dr. Hedge are members of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, which trains dentists in the effective and safe administration of conscious sedation.

Are you scared of the dentist? A lot of people are—maybe more than you realize.

The good news is that there is no need for you to suffer with lack of dental care or with poor quality dental care. Houston sleep dentists, Dr. Tom Hedge and Dr. Kathy Frazar, are trained and certified to provide conscious sedation dentistry.

We also have an on-staff periodontist who will ensure that your teeth and gums are healthy, as well as provide dental implants and sedation dentistry to meet your needs.

You can take a pill before your appointment which can make you so sleepy and relaxed that you may not even remember your dental appointment. Your teeth can be completely repaired so that you are pain-free and have a beautiful smile.

The Sleep Dentistry Technique

The technique is also called sedation dentistry or conscious sedation dentistry.

The medication used is triazolam, a sedative with a wide margin of safety that makes you sleepy and very relaxed but doesn’t make you unconscious. Thus, you can respond to requests to open your mouth, and your protective reflexes, such as coughing to clear your airway, are fully functional.

  • When you are done, there is a good chance that you won’t remember anything about your dental appointment.
  • You do need to have someone bring you to the appointment and take you home afterward because it isn’t safe to drive while under the influence of this medication.
  • During the appointment, as an extra measure of safety, we carefully monitor your vital functions with a pulse oximeter.
  • Both Dr. Hedge and Dr. Frazar have sedation permits from the Texas Board of Dentistry.
