There’s an interesting case of a patient who ended up needing a root canal treatment as a side effect of using Crest Whitestrips.
Read this posting on the mynewsmile blog about Crest Whitestrips risks.
Bottom line: you’re safest doing your teeth whitening under the direct supervision of a dentist.
My teeth are pretty straight besides one of my very front teeth. Is crooked, and it’s very noticeable (well to me at least), I’ve become afraid to smile now. I’m pretty sure this was caused because my tooth did not have enough room to grow in properly.! Can veneers cover up this imperfection without the need of braces??? Please help

Monique,
Yes, porcelain veneers are an excellent solution to a single crooked tooth like you have, or even several crooked teeth, if you don’t want braces. If it sticks out in front, it would need to be shaved back first.
But be sure to go to an excellent cosmetic dentist. It’s a little tricky for the dentist to visualize the final result, and so you need an artistically inclined dentist. There’s a great website that recommends cosmetic dentists. It’s run by a cosmetic dentist, and he personally screens every dentist he lists to make sure they do beautiful work. Drs. Frazar and Hedge are two of his recommended cosmetic dentists for Houston.
Another option is Invisalign invisible braces. With Invisalign, we use clear plastic aligners to straighten your teeth. It takes about half the time, and it eliminates the ugly and uncomfortable metal brackets. You may want to check that out, too.

I am 25 years old and have been researching different options to correct my smile for a very long time. I have congenially missing maxillary lateral incisors. I am interested in finding a least invasive procedure to correct this condition regardless of the cost. I have no other problems with my teeth apart from the gaps crated by the missing lateral incisors. My teeth are straight and even and I would be happy to email you a photograph so you can see my case. I have researched everything from orthodontically moving my teeth to make room for the implants (advice of one cosmetic dentist), reshaping my teeth and using crowns to correct my problem (advice of a second cosmetic dentist) and I have recently started research on Glamsmile/Lumineers, as they seemed like the least invasive procedure with predictable aesthetic results.
Now I just need an opinion of an independent party, someone with experience and honesty to tell me what is the best option for me. Every option carries risks and I don’t want to end up regretting any procedure which would leave me worst off . I am leaning towards the crowns procedure and this dentist (website address) due to the fact that they treated two patients with cases similar to mine with great results. Can you please look at the website yourself and tell me if this seems like the right move. I cannot tell you how much your help would mean to me. Thank you for your time.

You need to decide if you want cheap or if you want beautiful. You won’t get both.
And if you want cheap, I would recommend a dental flipper partial. This has two acrylic teeth on a pink acrylic base and snaps in. That will give you an acceptable look for not much money, and it won’t make a lot of difference where you get it. Most dentists can do that just fine.
I looked at the website of the dentist you’re thinking about and there are several serious red flags in my mind. Besides serious spelling errors on the website, there is no mention of the credentials of the dentist – I can’t even find a NAME of a dentist. And the main selling point of this office is the 50% discount. Big red flag! To do the same procedure everyone else does for only half the price requires some serious cutting of corners. I wouldn’t chance it.
If you want the least invasive treatment, then I would have an orthodontist move your teeth and then have dental implants placed replacing these lateral incisors. Any other treatment is going to involve treating your other natural teeth. But with ortho and implants, nothing has to be done to your other teeth. If this were my mouth, that’s what I would want to do.
Don’t let anyone try to make your canine teeth look like lateral incisors with Lumineers or GlamSmile or anything else. This is VERY difficult, and I promise you that the results will be disappointing to you if you go to any dentist except the top cosmetic dentist in Melbourne, who probably would refuse to do the case that way.
